The Mesquite Belt Railroad operates the Missouri-Kansas & Texas or MKT lines from Galveston through Houston to Ft. Worth, Texas. The MB also purchased the Katy's OKT route northward. The modeled portion is the MKT's Houston to Ft. Worth route. The Mesquite Belt's HO layout is housed in a 20'x40' depot. The layout's plan has over 800 linear feet of trackage, including a 14' curve and a 32' classification yard! The Mesquite Belt also has a M-9 Fairmont speeder! There are 6 Sub-Divisions on the Mesquite Belt: The Mesquite Belt is a member of the Piney Woods Model Railroad Club. Operation sessions are hosted by various members layouts on a rotating schedule. Currently, the MB is dispatched using track warrants from the dispatcher, however CTC is planned for train control. The railroad is controlled by Digitrax DCC. Model railroaders such as Tony Koester, Allen McClelland, Doug Tagsold, Eric Brooman, Brian Kanis, Gil Frietag, David Barrow, Gary Hoover, Bruce Carpenter, Steven Priest, and Jeff Ford have influenced me greatly. The Mesquite Belt Railroad is in the City of Palestine, Texas; home of the Texas State Railroad. The TSRR is a wonderful, relaxing trip back to yesteryear with a 3 hour trip powered by a steam engine through the Piney Woods of East Texas. Affordable, clean, educational, and quality time can be had by all. If you find yourself visiting this part of Texas, feel free to contact the Mesquite Belt by email or phone. We are always willing to show you the railroad in person!
